Travel Feature Magazine Design

This is a feature layout I did for The Society Diaries, a high-end glossy magazine. When laying out a feature about a destination, I feel that the pictures should be the focus point and be able to speak for themselves. With this, the opener started with a two-page spread image with just the header and subhead. A few key words were highlighted in a complementary blue to make it a little more interesting than just keeping all the text white. Since the feature was about paradise in Hawaii, I felt it was important to keep the layout clean, simple and breathable. Ideally, I would’ve liked to have another spread just for the island photo shown on the second spread. It’s such a gorgeous photo and it encompasses the beautiful island of Hawaii. Overall, I’m really happy with how the feature turned out!

Cool Sleek Catalog Designs

When I went shopping in Taiwan last Fall, I fell in love with the Rado watches.  They’re simple, clean, and… I’m waiting for the right time to get one!  Two weeks ago, I requested a catalog from them online and when I received it, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the packaging and design.  They definitely did not cut corners with the heavy-stock paper, silver catalog jacket, and casing.  I also love the use of “white” space on each page.  They let the watch/picture speak for itself.  As they say, “Less is More.” I agree! http://www.shoprado.us/

I’ve been furniture shopping lately.  With a love for modern, contemporary designs, I paid a visit to BoConcept downtown Austin.  LOVE LOVE LOVE their pieces! Wish I could buy the whole store!  Everything there is customizable — of course, with a price!  They gave a copy of their catalog when I entered the store.  I got a hold of their catalog from last year so I was super excited to get the newest issue!  They pretty much kept the same format, but did a few infographic-type designs which was cool.  There’s awesome photography throughout, and the print quality on the white glossy, thick-stock paper allows the pieces to really come alive on paper.  www.boconcept.us/
