Manholes Disguised As Art

Who knew something so plain and unappealing like a manhole could actually be… pretty?  These are decorative manhole covers in Japan.  Look how intricate the designs are.  I love the concept and it makes me wonder what other designs are out there!  If anyone has any to share, please submit them here.  I would love to post them up to share.

Austin Town Lake Pianos Update!

This past weekend, people were able to participate in smashing the “Play Me, I’m Yours” piano at the Pfluger Bridge Garden into pieces and taking them home as souvenirs.  The pianos were placed around the city from April 1 – May 1, 2011 by the Art Alliance Austin to celebrate Art Week Austin.  This concept was created by UK artist Luke Jerram in 2008 and has been touring internationally to major cities including NYC, London, and Sydney.  Upcoming cities to follow are Geneva (Jun 2011) and San Juan (Sep 2011).

Austin Town Lake Keeps Keeping Austin Weird!

I’ve been jogging at Town Lake lately now that it’s warmer and have been noticing a lot of changes.  Sure, all the new construction on the pedestrian bridge at Lamar and new trail improvements are great, but what I love most is the random art that’s been popping up everywhere.  Pianos have also been set up for whoever wants to play, or draw, on them!  I finally remembered to bring my phone along to take some pics to share. Enjoy!

Pac-Man chalk art on Mopac jogging bridge. (sorry it’s not very clear; it’s been there for a while now so it’s fading)

Piano on 1st St. pedestrian bridge.  Someone was playing on this one and he was awesome!

Hello Kitty Happy Hour #21

L.A. art gallery, Hold Up Art, is presenting a Hello Kitty exhibition “The 9 Lives of Kitty” from Feb. 19 – Mar. 6.  Sean D’Anconia, one of the 3 featured artists in the event, was kind enough to share some photos of his work in the show!  Thanks Sean!  And if you missed his first Hello Kitty Happy Hour, check it out!
