Fort Collins Winter 2018-19 Issue

I had a lot of fun with the home feature this issue, and really love how the cover turned out! Here’s a few layouts but you can always go here to see the whole issue online!

Reasons to love North Colorado!

Check out the latest Spring and Summer issues of Fort Collins Magazine.

This was the first time Fort Collins magazine did something super abstract for their cover. The Spring cover has at least five different images in it with a typography treatment on top of it. To give it a fun spring-like feel, I went for warm bright colors; but at the same time, kept some earthy-tones to reflect the brewery theme. I’m glad they went for it because I think it looks pretty neat!

FoCo Spring 18 COVER

The home feature is probably my favorite layout. Not only did the photographer do an awesome job capturing the mood and essence of the story, but the article itself wasn’t the typical happily ever after story — which makes it an interesting read. This gave me the challenge of having to creatively reflect thatUsing the bold san serif font shows the seriousness of the topic, and giving it an opacity treatment is a metaphor of how the couple’s lives in the house is in the past. In the end, I’m really please with how it turned out.

Austin Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival

I checked out the Austin Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival this weekend and was able to try out a few places. The weather was clear and sunny, lots of families, dogs, live music, and even story reading for the kids! The trailers were set up like how they’re located within the city and there were large street signs to indicate what area you’re in. It was also really cool seeing all the different trailer designs. The lines got quite long by noon so it took on average about 45 mins to get your food.  I was able to try out three different trailers: Chi’ Lantro BBQ, Jalopy, Turf N Surf  Po’ Boys.  I was pretty pleased with all three. My favorites were the Kim Chi fries w/chicken from Chi’ Lantro BBQ, and the mango taco from Jalopy.

Turf N Surf  Po’ Boys tangy mango pulled pork taco (fully dressed on a rolled jalapeno tortilla)

Turf N Surf  Po’ Boys crawfish etouffee (whole wheat roll with crawfish etouffee, fully dressed)

Look at the cool sandwich slide!

Restaurant Week! Yummy for my Tummy!

It’s restaurant week in Austin and a few girlfriends and I went to the Driskill Hotel last night. They had a pretty extensive menu to choose from compared to some of the other restaurants. Here’s what I had!

sundried tomato brioche & wheat bread with apricot, walnuts, and pecans
cinnamon peach smoothie
Texas Raised Rabbit Confit Thigh, Grilled Figs, Butter Roasted Heirloom Carrots, Wild Fennel Pollen.
Grilled "Strube Ranch" Wagyu Flatiron
French Baked Apple Tart

Overall, presentation of the food and service were very good.  It was a great dinner and I would go again!
